If you like football you will want to watch this movie.
It came out back in 2009, but I just recently watched it. This is a true story about the life of Michael Oher, who is the offensive lineman for the Baltimore Ravens. There was some good acting involved and a touching story.

Movie Review: The Help
A powerful movie with a slight comic relief. This movie is set during the civil rights movement and shows the life of maids in the US. Great movie.

Worst Movie of the Year goes to...
Scorpion King 3. It wasn't in theaters.. since it went straight to DVD. Not sure why i even watched this. Boredom can make you do stupid things. You actually need to cringe your teeth while watching because the acting is so bad. I was hoping for some good action sequences, but that was crap too.
Rating: 1/10
It gets 1 only cuz of the heroine.

Movie Review: Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol

It's rare that i go into a theater with high expectations and come out feeling satisfied. This was just one of those moments. If you like action/spy/gadgets/conspiracy this is the movie for you.
It's action packed, and some of the stunts are just amazing. You really don't need to synopsis to watch this movie.. cuz who watches a spy movie for the storyline? But the general idea is that Tom Cruise's team gets framed and they are out to stop a terrorist from nuking San Francisco.
I also watched this in an IMAXX theater. Better screen, better sound.. but more expensive. $18.50

Movie Review: Crazy Stupid Love

It's been a while since i laughed this much watching a movie.
Crazy Stupid Love is a romantic comedy starting some big names. Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, and Emma Stone. Is it just me, or does Emma Stone look just like Lindsay Lohan? For the entire movie i thought it was Lohan.. lol.
The movie is about a father that is struggling with his marriage and tries to take care of his kids. He meets a guy at a bar who tries to help him become a "ladies man".
There are some corny lines, and sappy moments. Yet, the whole feel of the movie was well made, and the creativity of the storytelling was fantastic. I especially enjoyed the exaggerated parts of Gosling picking up girls at a bar. Does that even happen?

Movie Review: The Good The Bad The Weird

좋은놈 나쁜놈 이상한놈.
The movie is about 3 guys. A thief, a bounty hunter, and a murderer. All 3 of them are entangled in a drama over a treasure map. The setting is old western with a mix of early 1900 weapons and vehicles.
Lee Byun Hun and Jung Woo Sung star in this movie - and it's not often you find two very high paid actors in the same movie. Neither of them outshine each other - and it was a perfect balance.
The movie has many shooting scenes and abundant volume of chase action. Cinematography was really good, and some of the scene locations looked nice. But, the overall plot and drama didn't have any "umph". Most of the story was predictable. Worth watching at least once.

Movie Review: Glove

There aren't that many movies that put little drops of tears in my eyes. Either i am getting old or being too emotional; but this movie was a pleasant surprise. I was looking at a list of torrents to DL and just happen to find this. The original trailer and posters didn't really seems appetizing. And how wrong i was..
Did you know there is love is baseball? Glove - G = Love. lol.
The synopsis of the movie is about a troublemaker pitcher in Korean baseball that is suspended for his violence. He goes to coach baseball at a school for deaf students to redeem his reputation.
There is a part in the movie at around 1 hour and 15 minutes where the coach gives an inspirational speech. That was the climax and the best part of the movie.
If you can read Korean, you can find the torrent @ 1004box.com

Movie Review: Sunny 써니

This movie was well received in Korea. It recently came out on DVD and i was able to get a copy. It's pretty good, it's funny and sad.. then funny and sad again.
The story is about 7 girls and their lives during High School during the 60's 70's. The movie crosses during the present and the past, and shows their memories through the protagonist Nami.
Overall it's a great movie, and i thought the flow was well balanced.

Movie Review: Take me home tonight

This movie has that one guy from "That 70's Show". I can never remember his name, but the synopsis of the movie is about a guy that can't seem to figure out what to do with his life after graduating from MIT. While working at a video store, he meets his high school crush and the story unfolds about how he tries to get with her.
What made me think during this movie was how hard guys actually try to impress girls. It's like those peacocks.. the birds with the best looking feathers get to mate. Funny how the animal kingdom is all the same. Human males generally do one of the following to impress girls:
1. Looks. Hair, makeup?, muscle, clothes, swag, and even plastic surgery to get with girls.
2. Money. Does this need an explanation? Guys will make sure girls know they have money. Either with their cars, clothes, accessories, and if they get far enough - their homes.
3. Career/Status. Hey, i work for Google and have a billion stock options. Or, hi my name is Mark Z... yeah have you heard of Facebook? Status.. as in, hi i am the President of the USA.
4. If you don't have any of the preceding items, then you should hope to God that you have a good sense of humor. I don't know if i believe this, but MANY girls will tell me a guy can be ugly as hell as long as he can make her laugh. Nah.. i still don't believe you. Ok ok. maybe 50% true.
5. The guy doesn't even have a sense of humor. Wow.. then i guess it's up to his personality. If you're a girl and you've made it this far down the list.. girl.. you must be really broke in the face. Be a little more confident!
All of us guys do it. We try to strut what we got going for us. If we have multiple things on that list, then kudos! Sometimes i wonder what the world would be like if it was expected that girls hit on guys first.
Anyways, back to the movie. It was so so.. very predictable. A dozen or so funny scenes.

Movie Review: Limitless
I'm sure many people have wondered what life would be like if they could use 100% of their brain capacity. Now, someone was genius enough to make it into a movie. The story is about a douchebag that gets introduced to a pill that let's him use all of his brain.
Man.. the possibilities.. if i was able to.. lol. keep dreaming.
There was one one moment in the movie where it becomes a little dull. The rest was fast paced and exciting. There isn't anything worthy to be watched on the big screen. This is a perfect movie to watch at home. But, def. a must watch.

Movie Review: Unknown + Buried

Man.. Liam Neeson is such a badass! I love this guy. I first loved his acting in the movie "Taken", and now he did a pretty good job in "Unknown". The synopsis of the movie is about a scientist that goes into a comma after a car accident. When he wakes up, his life is turns upside down. Nobody knows who he is, or who he claims to be.
I would have preferred if his character had more action sequences like it did in "Taken", but even so i enjoyed the movie.
Rating: 7.9/10

I also watched "Buried". It's about a guy stuck inside a coffin. Someone recommended this video, and i was interested in how they would show 90 minutes of suspense about a guy stuck in a coffin. I must say they did an incredible job. It reminded me of the movie with Collin Farrel called "Phone Booth" - which was about a guy stuck in a phone booth with a sniper telling him what to do.
Pretty interesting movie. Very low budget. Also reminded me of 127 hours.

Movie Review: Thor
The first movie of Thor (there will be a sequel called "The Avengers") was just so so. They made him just overpowered. The fight scenes were semi cool, but unsatisfying due to the uneven matchups. Overall story was humorous. I laughed plenty, specially during Stan Lee's usual cameo's.
Rating: 6/10. Worth watching once.. probably best to just watch it at home.

Movie Review: Fast Five
It was pretty good. Maybe it was due to my low expectations. In any case, the action scenes were done very well. The story was so so.. some parts were just too plainly laid out with a sign that read "Hey guys, sorry to add this BS to the story, but we were paid by our sponsors".
If you go watch it, make sure to stay after the credits to get a sneak peak of the next sequel. I was going to give this an 8.. but the story shaved a point off.

Dumb movie. Went with low expectations, and ended up sleeping through half the movie. DO not watch this. Such a waste of money. Slow paced movie with so so animation.

On another good note, i sold my R1900 Epson printer for $300. As soon as my rebate comes back, i would have gotten my D3100 for $300. Good deal.

Movie Review: The Next Three Days
What a sigh of relief after watching mediocre movies! I loves action thrillers. Specially prison related, or escapes by innocent ppl.
The movie is about a wife that is incarcerated for murder and her husband trying to find ways to free her so that they can be a family again. The first half of the movie is a bit dragged, but the second half keeps you on your toes.
Rating: 8/10
On a side note, i watched "The Warrior's Way" and it's not even worth putting it on a separate entry. The movie sucked, which is a good reason it flopped in theaters. Don't waste your time on it.

Movie Review: The Fighter

How would you like this movie sir? Medium rare please. Was this even a boxing movie? It was soooo clique and tacky that i urked as i watched this. The Fighter was a bad remake of Rocky. The cinematography during the fight sequences sucked, and the storyline was way too obvious. It actually started out okay.. then just kept getting worse and worse.

Movie Review: 127 Hours

I think imbd gave this movie a 8/10 rating. Just as my previous blog entry regarding The King's Speech, this movie was highly recommended.
The plot is about a man that is trapped in the canyons because his arm was wedged between rocks during a fall. He was trapped there for 127 hours, hence the title of the movie. I think everybody knows how he got out.. (he cut his arm off), it was all over the news.
The majority of the movie was exactly as I imagined. A film based on a man stuck between two rocks. They tried to add some storyline by going into his past, his love life, and his family. They failed in that regard, because i felt it was overdone.
The best part of the movie is when his free from the rock, and runs for help. But the movie ends soon afterwards. Was this even worth watching once? I honestly can't even answer that question. I watched it to satisfy my curiosity.. and i will certainly not watch it again.

Movie Review: The King's Speech

Why did this movie get such high ratings and awards? I thought it was good, but not to the extent that critics are raving about.
The plot of the story is about the king of England who has a stuttering problem, meets a doctor to help him correct it. The acting was very well done, and the story telling was good - but i still think it was a bit boring at times and there wasn't any "umph" to make me say, "wow.. that was a great movie".
There was a part where the king is told to wear an earphone playing loud music and to read a book. He was able to do so w/o a stutter. I don't see why this method wasn't used during any of his private speeches done by radio.
In any case, it was worth watching once - but i will not watch it again.

Movie Review: Ah Juh Shi (Mister) 아저씨
Wasn't expecting much, and i think that's what made the difference. You know when watching a movie with very low expectations, more times than not, you find yourself surprised. This movie was pretty good and it reminded me of "Taken" with Liam Neeson.
Won Bin transforms into a total badass as he fights bad guys in order to save a kidnapped little girl. The knife fight sequences were pretty good and it doesn't use all the CGI/slow motion/special effects other movies use.
In other news, Jang Dong Gun is starring in a Hollywood movie "The Warrior's Way".. something about cowboys and ninja's. I saw a preview for it while working out, and apparently it starts this Friday. Probably not worth the money..

Movie Review: Social Network
I wonder exactly how much of the movie was fiction and real.. i mean.. they used the guy's real name. The movie also portrays him as a douche bag.. how much of it is true? Who knows. I've been putting off watching this movie for a long time because even though it received great reviews, i just could not get it around my head that a movie about Social Networking would be interesting.
I was quite surprised though, because the story is well told. It skips between past, present, and future - to show each characters progression in building Facebook.
Honestly I can't help but think of the potential Bjunkyard once had. Sure it wasn't exactly the right idea to grow into a global spectrum.. but it did have more than 20,000 members and a million page views at it's peak. There were even offers to buy the domain name.
When Napster was first going around letting users download music, i was already posting links to direct downloads for Kpop albums on my site.
When Friendster and MySpace were getting big, we already had a huge diverse group of members that linked with eachother.
Before Youtube was invented, bjunkyard was posting links to video streaming.
Yet.. the light bulb just never sparked on top of my head. I remember having a conversation with Jet a long time ago when we were using free storage websites to host our video content - and how we should maybe invest on larger servers that would allow us to host our own files. We even thought about allowing our users to just watch, and not download. This was before Youtube.
Talking about it doesn't change anything though.. it is what it is. There are still plenty of ideas that have not been thought of.. like auto mechanics that make house calls nationwide.
What really inspires me about Facebook is the fact that it was a late bloomer.. Friendster and MySpace was already way ahead of the game.. yet they fought on and became a powerhouse like no other. Interestingly enough, Google was the same way.. Yahoo, Lycos, and Excite were the first search engines, yet Google now holds that market with one finger.
Who knows, maybe in a year or two, something bigger than what these companies think they have will come along.
