TV Show Review: Boys Before Flowers

I heard so many good reviews on this k-drama that i had to watch it. It's currently on Hulu with English subtitles. Just do a search for "Boys Before Flowers". It is a rather long mini series with a total of 25 episodes. You will have to stick with 45 second commercials. For every 1 hour episode there are about 6 commercials in between.

The synopsis is about four boys that go to a private high school just for rich kids. Eventfully a commoner girl ends up going to the same school and the drama unveils the story between each of the kids. For the first half of the series, the story is funny, full of life, and entertaining. The second half is sappy, and lovey dovy - with lots of make up and break up. Typical k-drama.

구혜선 (Goo Hye Sun) who plays the main heroine does a pretty good job with her role. Her cute smile and energetic character is charismatic. She has one of those smiles that just brightens up your day.

I was debating on what rating to give this drama. It lost a few points because it just dragged on a bit too long. 20 episodes would have been perfect. I honestly didn't see the last 5 episodes as necessary.

Rating: 8/10

Quote of the Day: Meeting

Screw u 23123(a) VC

So today, I got a ticket for talking on my cell while driving. The conversation lasted 10 seconds, and i was 2 minutes from my destination. I wouldn't be as pissed if it was a long conversation - or even a meaningful conversation. The dialogue was:

"Hey are you almost here?"
"Yea, ETA 2 min"
"Ok"
"Bye"

As i was nearing the parking lot, i see red lights behind me. I honestly don't know where the cop was hiding, or how the heck he saw me talk on the phone for those short 10 seconds. I am pretty sure he wasn't behind me. What are the chances that this crap happens?

To top it all off, violation 23123(a) says there is a base fine of $20. But this is very misleading because they charge court fees 6x the base amount. From my research, the ticket will end up being $141 after they tack on all the extra fees.

I don't plan on fighting this ticket, since i was obviously guilty - but it's just frustrating.

Those of you that live in CA, i guess you can learn from me. Even if the phone conversation lasts a short period, it's not worth picking up the call w/o a hands-free device.

Song of the Day: Clover - La Vida Loca

Another catchy tune.

Song of the Day: LeeSsang - Let's Meet

Gil and Jerry.. haha. Catchy.

ETA 7 Days.. Seoul

So in about a week, i will be leaving for S. Korea. I haven't been there since 1999 when my grandfather passed away. What frightens me the most is getting lost. Why you ask? Because i will be going by myself this time, and i don't plan on tagging along with my parents on all of my adventures. I want to do those 2 days 1 night trips that they do on that TV show. But what if i get lost!

I had this guy ask me to buy him training clothes (jacket and sweat pants) from Korea. I told him to just buy it here, cuz it's likely cheaper. But then he goes on about how Korean quality is better. I dunno if i'm going to buy it for him yet.. cuz it'll probably not even fit in my bag.

One thing i really want to do is get on television! Yes,.. find out where they are filming 영웅호걸 and get on film hugging IU. HAHA. Very unlikely.

For now, the plan is to visit family, eat some bomb food, and take a small trip to scenic areas and take tons of pictures. What else should i do? Please leave a comment.

On a side note, my 6 pack is coming back into shape. I got this last 10lbs i need to shed. Goal is by June. I'm thinking i will gain a few lbs in Korea.

TV Show Review: Dream High

I admit, the only reason i began watching this was because of the cast. Suzy, IU, and Eun Jung. The synopsis of the drama is about students attending an art school that specializes in creating new celebrities in Korea. The 16 episodes all lead into a climax when they try to achieve their "Dreams" of becoming famous and debuting as an artist.

What you can expect is LOTS of tears.. i think crying scenes were WAY overdone. Acting was sub par. Half the cast is from JYP Entertainment. JYP himself is one of the main cast members. Humorous. You will laugh more than a dozen times.

Interesting note is that IU went to JYP in real life a few years ago to get cast as a singer. She was denied. She eventually became an internet star after releasing home videos of herself singing cover songs of popular groups like Big Bang, and SNSD. JYP publicly went on to say that he regretted not realizing IU's potential at the time. In the drama, this revelation is comically embedded into the story.

Overall, i'd say it was worth watching. The story isn't the greatest. There were obvious tells that the writer was swayed into changing bits and pieces towards the end likely due to pressure from producers or fans.
