Gallery Back Up / Forums Fixed

The infamous bjunkyard gallery is back up.  Enjoy all the pics!

Click me

PS.  Uploading feature is disabled until further notice.

PS 2.  Fixed a couple of things:
  1. No more ads
  2. Yesasia banners gone
  3. No more skins to choose from (this may change, but fixing each skin was going to take too long)
  4. Background unison - site looks more in sync
  5. No more ugly Lefora ads.. that forum sucked anyways
Future plans currently include a new background image.  The current dark gray theme is a standard one i chose from Blogger.  When i have time i'll try to design a new one that fits Bjunkyard.

Time machine is just going to be a link to an older version of Bronx's Junkyard.. the files are in the server, i just have to change the link on the nav.

Sleepy..

Word of the Day: Nepotism

Nepotism is favoritism granted to relatives or friends, without regard to their merit.[1] The word nepotism is from the Latin word nepos (meaning "nephew" or "grandchild").

Scared to Change?

Adventure..
Security..

Fear..
Courage..

Commitment..
Determination..

Out of those 3 sets of words which would you pick?  I've been thinking about how i feel about my current position in life and how I have been scared to change.  I realize that i am the type of person that enjoys commitment and having security over adventures.  This all came about when i was deciding to quit my day job.

Most ppl will agree with me that you've thought about the following questions:

1. Do i enjoy my job?
2. Does my job make me happy, and if no, is there something else out there?
3. What if i can't find a new job?

To be honest, this recent decision to resign from my job wasn't as easy as i portray.  I do have my fears about finding a new job and having to move back to California.  I would have to make sacrifices that i wouldn't have had to if i just stayed in my current position.  I wouldn't have minded staying if i was able to get a transfer to Cali -  but that never happened.

The behind story about the scenario is that before i moved to NY, there was a few promises made to me.  First, there would be new hires that i would need to train in the NY office.  Second, after a few years and things settle down, i had the option to move back to Cali.  And lastly, i would be paid $2k for moving expenses.  Well, it's been 2 years, and neither of those promises panned out - so i ultimately resigned with a bitter taste in my mouth.

In the end, there was one question i really had to ask myself.

Happiness?  Security?

Having a stable job with flexible income is nice.  But lately, i have been miserable living in NY.  Since getting xfered wasnt' an option, i had to choose.  Do I choose to be happy at the expense of not knowing the outcomes of the near future?  Or do i just stay miserable and choose security at my current desk job?

What was the bubble breaker?  It's the fact that life is too short.  I had a dream about being 50 years old, miserable, in the same job and lonely.  But hey!, i had a lot of money.... then i woke up.  I'm almost 30 now.. i started Bjunkyard back in 1996 in good old Geocities!  It's been over 14 years and time has surely flown by.

It probably wont' be easy in the current market conditions to find a well paying job, yet i'd rather take that chance than waste more of my time being lonely here in NY.

2 more weeks.  I got my plane tickets from Virgin America for $129.  My last day here will be 3/30.  I should start packing/selling stuff.

Ready or Not, Here I Come

I'm going going, back back, to Cali Cali..  One way or another, i'll be moving back to California at the end of March.  Exciting!  My adventures here in NY ends after 2 years.

NY has it's moments.  I think i took on this adventure when i was too old.  If you want to explore NY, it's probably best during your early 20's or possibly while taking courses in NYU.  The crowd is definitely different from LA or SF.  I probably didn't take full advantage of my time here to explore and do all that NY has to offer which is a shame, but that's most likely due to the fact that i spent most of the time here healing a broken heart.

It's time to start anew!  Got so many things left to do.. anybody who lives in NY have recommendations on "Must Do's" before i leave?  I've already done Statue of Liberty, Empire State Bld., Central Park, Union Sqr, Manhattan Ktown, Flushing Ktown, Chinatown, MoMa, and the strip next to NYU.

Alas, i will end this blog with the top 5 most annoying and satisfying aspects of New York.

Most Annoying
  1. Tourists
  2. People walking on the street while texting and reading their PDA's
  3. People blocking the subway entrance while looking for their MTA pass
  4. The slowest persons trying to get out of the trains first, only to block both lanes of the stairs towards the exit
  5. Post snow days when the ice is melting, and there is a patch of ice on the cross walk.  You step on it thinking it's solid, only to find that it's a sheet of ice with a big puddle of dirty water underneath and you end up a foot deep in water
Most Satisfying
  1. Snow.  You can only see snow in Cali if you go to the mountains.  In NY it's everywhere and it's beautiful (until it turn brown and yucky)
  2. Public Transportation.  Never have to worry about DUI
  3. Food (Hell's Kitchen) - So many choices
  4. No Tax on clothes (under $100)
  5. The vast array of culture and history to explore

Phone Contracts Should be 1 Year!

I signed up for Verizon 1.5 years ago to get the LG Dare phone.  Right now i'm not happy with the phone because i'd rather have an iPhone to browse the web in 3G.  The whole 2 year contract.. who invented that?  It's gotta be either a genius scheme or the most random number for a contract time frame.  I have to wait until summer to either cancel or renew my account - so this sucks!
