Song of the Day: f(x) - Pinocchio ~ Danger

Trip to Korea: Day 2

April 17 Sun.

Went to eat Chinese food. Had "Ja Jang Myun" and "tan soo yook". Pretty good, tastes a little better than what they have state side. Next took a nap and then headed over to a small walkway that is filled with cherry blossom trees. They are sort of like Sakura flowers in Japan. It's very pretty in person. When the wind blows, you see groups of the white pedals flowing in the wind. They said it was going to rain tomorrow so i had to take pictures today. Hmm.. i should really head over to GangNam tonight..

Internet here is amazingly fast. On a wireless connection I'm getting 1.5mb/sec downloads. Korea was rated one of the fastest internet countries in the world, and it's no joke.

I also experienced my first street vendor junk food since coming here. It was a large corn-dog for $2. It was pretty good. There are so many little kids everywhere! I remember it was like this when i was 5 living in Korea. The population is so dense, that it's just natural to have lots of little kids roaming around.

Tonight i hit up a small Duk Bok Gi restaurant. I had their Udon and Duk Bok Gi, each cost $2.50 with a decent portion. Rating? I know why it's only $2.50.

Trip to Korea: Day 1

April 16 Sat.

First day in Korea. The flight was rather comfortable. I ended up siting in the very back row where the isle seats become from 3 seats to 2 seats with space next to the window. There was plenty of leg room particularly because of the way the seats were designed for my particular area. Also ended up siting next to a very nice Filipino grandpa.

The food was pretty nasty. I'm thinking on the flight back i may just not eat. The bibimbap was so so.. and the scrambled eggs for breakfast was pretty nasty. There was one very attractive stewardess on my isle, that made my flight a whole lot shorter. I took my notebook thinking i would need it to keep me occupied during the 12 hours - but it really wasn't necessary. I watched 3 movies off the on board entertainment system, and slept during the other 6 hours.

The drive back to my parents house took an hour, and the first impression i got from Korea was the quality of air. It's pretty nasty here in Seoul. You can see the layer of smog in the air.

I am now at my parents house, and it's in a very tall building. I am currently on the 26th floor which is the last floor in this building. The house is a 3BDR apartment with hardwood floors. Pretty typical of what I'd expected from what I've seen in Korean dramas.

After breakfast, my dad and I headed over to the neighborhood hot spring sauna. The place dug 800 meters underground and uses the water as an oasis. The water has a slight egg scent, as would any hot spring. They have this really cool room which stays at 130 degrees F, and has a huge 50" flat screen. It was really nice inside. Afterward, we stopped by the convenient store to buy some drinks. I'm pretty sure 10 years ago, a can of coke was $0.20 cents. It's $1 now. Times sure have changed. Actually.. maybe not. Jja Jang Myun (Korean bean paste noodle) is still $3.50 here.

Another difference i found today was that there aren't that many trash cans on the street - compared to California.

Lunch for today is sashimi. Unfortunately i could not take my camera with me, because of certain circumstances, but the food was bomb. It was a full course of sashimi, tempura, bibimbap, soup. $25 per person. Only down side was having to sit Indian style for the entire lunch.

What to eat for dinner.. hm..

Ended up skipping dinner and took a nap. Went out around 10pm to roam the night life near my parents place. Two things i found out:

1. Cars and motorcycles have the right of way here. Don't play chicken with them.
2. Every block is covered with drunkards.

I wanted to hit up Gang Nam or Ap Gu Jung Do, but I'm too tired and jet lagged. Will maybe do it tomorrow.

Quick update from Korea

I've been keeping a log of everything since i got here. I will start publishing soon. In the meantime, i went to Insadong with my dad and they had this cool video booth in the street. You can take videos and send them via e-mail.

Quote of the Day: Love with our hearts..

"We may love with our hearts, but we first lust with our eyes"

The people who say, "I'm not shallow, i don't look at appearance when looking for a partner" - is so full of crap. I've met a few people who said this recently, and it was humorous at best. Well... actually maybe if the person is blind..
